Don't Let Calvert Steal This Election!

Following is an update from Bill Hedrick on the vote count in his congressional race for CA-44:
Dear Friends and Supporters,
Ken Calvert is facing his most serious challenge of his 16-year Congressional career --- the race for the 44th Congressional District remains too close to call.
Earlier this week, Mr. Calvert declared victory and he did so before in excess of 200,000 uncounted vote-by-mail and provisional ballots had been tallied. GOP lawyers are descending upon registrars' offices in Orange and Riverside trying to influence the vote counting.
As was reported earlier this week in the Huffington Post,
Calvert's team has apparently been having private conversations with the registrar's office in Riverside County, which was the last county in California to report its election results. There were numerous reports from Democratic Party officials, voters and even a poll worker in Riverside County that voters were ‘forced to use provisional ballots’ or ‘denied ballots entirely’ on Tuesday.
Countywide, we understand there are still more 58,000 absentee and 48,000 provisional ballots remaining to be processed, as well as thousands of poll votes rejected by scanning machines that have yet to be counted. Our number one priority is to support a fair and accurate accounting to ensure every vote is counted and every voice is heard in this election.
I want to thank the leadership and staff of the Registrar of Voters in Riverside and Orange Counties who have been working around the clock since Tuesday, processing the uncounted ballots, and for their transparency in accurately reporting the results.
We need to allow the process to be completed. The margin is certain to go up and down over the next three weeks. The election in the 44th Congressional District is not over yet and won’t be until all the votes have been counted.
We have assembled a legal team to make sure the process is fair and that all valid ballots get counted. We have the best lawyer money can buy, but good lawyers are expensive.
Do not let Calvert steal this election. We don't need another Florida 2000 popping up here in Riverside County. We are making waves and even the national press has taken notice that the race for the 44th isn't over yet
I need your help today to fight back.
Please consider making a contribution to the Hedrick Ballot Fund right now to help pay our legal costs and make sure thousands of votes are counted.

As an individual you can contribute up to $2,300 toward our effort. Your previous contribution to the Hedrick for Congress Campaign does not count toward the limit. Even if you contributed the maximum amount to my 2008 campaign, you can still make a contribution to the Hedrick Ballot Fund.

I interviewed Markos (Kos) Moulitsas, founder of the Dailykos.com and asked him about the failure of conservative values. For him, the conservative value of self-delusion was the greatest failure. He says conservatives value their ideology over actual reality and he pointed out a series of examples of how this ideology ignores reality.
"As long as our civilization is essentially one of property, of fences, of exclusiveness, it will be mocked by delusions." Ralph Waldo Emerson
Failed Conservative Values: Markos Moulitsas - Self-Delusion

Edwin: Have conservative values failed?
Markos: Oh, yeah, the failure of conservative values, the bottom line is that it has no bearing on reality. They created an alternate reality – cut taxes, lower the deficit, balance the budget – where global warming did not exist, where the world was invented 6,000 years ago, where science is bogus, where the best way to educate kids is to defund the schools.
And this is the comeuppance. When you base your reality on an ideology that has really no basis for reality, you’re doomed to failure. When you have an ideology that says that government cannot work, you have to by default run a shitty government. What’s the alternative?
Let’s say George Bush says the government can’t work, we need to shrink it. So, when I appoint my director of FEMA, instead of appointing a horse lawyer, I’m going to appoint an experienced administer who knows about disaster management and logistics planning. So when Katrina happens, the government does a fantastic job, making people’s lives better.
Suddenly, you have sort of a collision of ideologies. When you say government can’t work, and you have government that works, where does that leave the conservatives? In a really, really piss-poor place.
So, by default, Bush had to appoint the horse lawyer to FEMA, I could go down the list – in department after department it’s scandal after scandal. I mean, it’s all because he appointed people who are not qualified. Because they need to fail, they need to prove that government cannot work, and the way you prove government does not work is by running a government that does not work.

Speaks for itself...just 40 seconds:
Disappointed in DFA
The ad on John McCain was in poor taste. It was more GOP than what DFA should be. I'm disappointed. NBC should have pulled the ad. Take responsibility for the poor choice you made. I'm a big supporter of Obama and Democrats in my area. That ad was in poor taste. Attack McCain on the poor decisions he made in Senate by supporting Bush 90% of the time. Attack him on his voting record. A lot of people with cancer, I'm sure, were insulted by the DFA ad.
Hey, Long Time, Need U Now
Geez, This was my first blog and quite frankly it is now too high tech for me. I can not find the " main thread", is there one? I have not been around, but when I have been it has been great. WHere is everyone?
I want to talk about this bailout that just didn't happen. I went to the prostest on Wall street last week, which focused on helping Main street--- but to not pass something today is very bad I think. I need to talk about this with you all wherever you all are.
Love, ChrisNYC

According to McCain last week, the economy is fundamentally strong. Acording to McCain this week, the economy is in such terrible shape, he must suspend his campaign.
George Bush surprised everyone with his Paulson-authored plan to socialize the banking and mortgage industry. I think the Democrats are shocking us all for appearing to go along with it.
Republicans appeared to support the bail-out plan, then reverted to the old mantra of 'let the market sort it out.' Now, both parties are debating how best to prop up our 'economy' by lending money or taking ownership (socializing) of domestic and foreign banks that have mismanaged their portfolio of risk. Meanwhile, the parties are talking a good game about how they are ultimately protecting the taxpayer with these plans. Oh...and hard-line Republicans are supporting the 'your on your own' policy of thinking the market will correct itself.
I put the word economy in quotes (above) because I think there is a clear disconnect between what the economy is and encompasses and what the offered solution addresses. The economy encompasses many things: GDP, credit, productivity, value of currency, trade, wages, employment, taxes, markets, banking, industry, inflation, and much more. What is being discussed in Washington is myopic in nature because it is only addressing one or two small areas of the economy---and the proposed solutions come with a hefty price tag.
What this $700 Billion plan addresses is a small portion of what the economy is. In addition, to put this amount in perspective, $700 Billion is what we have spent on a war that has driven us deeply into debt over the past 5 years. $700 Billion given, loaned, or taken in shares of ownership...is a short-term solution that promises to put our economy in further trouble down the road. This $700 Billion, in whatever form it leaves the Treasury, will decrease the value of the dollar, provide more credit liquidity for companies and people to get into deeper trouble with, increase inflation, and do absolutely nothing to help the average American in the long run.

Heart Tuner Gizmo (HRV) Breakthrough!
Dan has said that one of the things that should be done when tuning the heart, is to increase the "Left/Right" motion of the arrow in the Cepstrum screen. Doing this is supposed to increase Heart Rate Variability. Try as I might, my Coherence peaks always seemed to stay between 0.6 and 0.8Hz through most of my daily sessions, since I got the Heart Tuner last year.

Planned Parenthood Action Fund is setting the record straight on John McCain as "just another politician who'll say anything to get elected." They began airing last Friday an aggressive new TV ad on MSNBC. Their ad fires back at the shameful distortions and the same old dirty-tricks in political ads designed by inside the beltway operatives to purposely mislead the American people.

Democracy For America Endorses Debbie Cook (CA - 46)
Linked to groups: Blog For America

DemocracyForAmerica.com, our nation’s largest progressive political action community, has endorsed Huntington Beach Mayor Debbie Cook’s campaign to represent California’s 46th Congressional District. Debbie is running against the disastrous incumbent Republican Dana Rohrabacher.
“Debbie Cook has been a grassroots champion for over 20 years and has a proven record of success in the private sector and as a public servant,” said Jim Dean, Chair of DFA. “Debbie Cook is running because she’s a committed advocate and activist who fights for her constituents and delivers results.”
Democracy for America is a key endorsement in this race, bringing donations from progressives and providing volunteers to participate in door-to-door, grassroots outreach. DFA has helped elect over 550 progressives to office from Rep. Jerry McNerney in California’s 11th Congressional District to Governor Deval Patrick in Massachusetts to Rep. Donna Edwards in Maryland’s 4th Congressional District.
“I’m proud to be endorsed by Democracy for America. I am no stranger to grassroots organizing as I led a grassroots movement in my city to protect our parks and beaches,” said Mayor Cook. “Jim Dean and DFA have made a priority of spreading grassroots organizing throughout the country. Thanks to their efforts, Orange County has one of the strongest DFA coalition groups anywhere, and their volunteer efforts will help put us over the top in November.”
“Debbie Cook’s opponent has been a total failure for the District. Dana Rohrabacher has had his chance to protect American jobs from outsourcing and he has failed,” said Daniel I. Medress, Communications Director of DFA. “Dana Rohrabacher has had a chance to honor the sacrifices of our brave men and women in uniform and he has failed. Debbie Cook is the only candidate in this race with the experience and judgment we need. She will stand up for working families, children, veterans, seniors and win.”
