My Experience in progressive politics:

It's all contained in a recent profile on me by Jose Antonio Vargas of the Washington Post on June 9, 2008. The article is entitled: "Something Just Clicked: An Obama Delegate's Road to Politics Began With an Online Donation"

Why I want to attend Netroots Nation:

I believe passionately in the power of the Internet...and its citizen journalists...to change the direction our country is going in. I want to meet the people that are 'spreading the word' one computer at a time...throughout the world!

What I want to get out of Netroots Nation:

An overview of the blogging world and tips on communicating more effectively. Mostly, I want to see how a middle-aged African-American woman such as myself fits in this movement!

What is a progressive activist:

A progressive activist is not limited by the procedures, policies, and actions of the past. A progressive activist is always looking for new ways to implement time-tested ideas (and ideals!).

In the 1960's, a progressive activist sought to uphold the rights of the disenfranchised and highlight the needs of 'minority' groups.

In the 1970's, a progressive activist sought to uphold the rights of the individual, particularly women.

In the 1980's, a progressive activist tried to move society away from rampant materialism.

In the 1990's, a progressive activist took a more global perspective, particularly when it came to human rights and environmental concerns.

In this decade, a progressive activist wants to move beyond divisions...either racial, economic, or geographic...to unite people with common goals.

How I think blogs fit into the progressive movement:

Blogs empower citizens and provide opinions and news from different perspectives. People have a multitude of choices with the blogging community...unlike the mainstream media, TV in particular.

How I think Democracy For America fits into the progressive movement:

The founders of DFA were one of the first to tap into the power of the web in reaching Americans.

In 10 words or less, create a bumper-sticker slogan against John McCain:

McCain: 2 Steps Backwards, 0 Steps Forward

Why I Deserve a Scholarship to Attend

I am a working mom, and with the cost of fuel, food, health care, and tuition, taking a HUGE toll on my family budget...I have no extra income for travel.
